Kinja'd!!!

The Chinese steal our work, contract by contract.

I don't even want to wait and see the 2013 numbers on Monday, my boss is going to be angry, and his bosses will be even angrier.

The Chinese are not playing by the general rules, their government backs them, and losing money doesn't seem to bother the Chinese government, who controls most of their big companies.

Kinja'd!!!

And don't give me that China needs the money for their billion+, people, bullshit. Less than 1% goes to the average Lee.

So it's come down to this: State run capitalist vs. capitalist run state.

It's true, a few years ago, when we were losing North African. South Asian and Indian contracts to the Chinese, the upper management called it a strategic retreat, from less lucrative markets, but now, they are challenging us here in America, on European markets and even back in Japan.

Now, they won't admit they were wrong, but they want to consolidate by merging with Hazama Corp. and even Penta Ocean. I doubt that either of them are very interested.

I sadly knew that: part of my Company's halo products were moved to China three years ago... "...it's only for the Far Eastern markets, you know... the shipping costs..." and now those appliances are coming back to Europe and the Italian head factories that once were producing them, are going to be closed. I hope there is a hell round, for those fuckin' goons.

At least in your case, your company is making money using low paid Chinese workers, in my case, the Chinese are coming for our ass.

Man, working for a company like Shimizu seemed like the best thing ever, and now the red plague is ruining it for me. I do hope that the big bosses back in Japan understand what Vinci's recipe for success(if trying to keep up with the Chinese can be called success) was, and apply it to our company. Basically the French bought smaller companies in various places around the world, even some places we left a few years ago, and integrated their knowledge of the local markets into the knowledge and expertise of a global company. That's what we should do, in my opinion.

Also, you can't really blame the managers for plants relocation, their job is to make money, and grow the company to please the shareholders. When other strategies fail, cutting labor costs, is a quick way to reach targets. Even if workers are not happy about it, and trust me, as a guy who spends more than half of his time at work in the HR department, telling a worker that it's fired, is not as fun as Donald Trump or Vince McMahon make it look.

You write "Their job is to make money". This says it all of you. And what about the responsibility of having in their hands the future and the life of thousands of families?

I can only tell you that it's been four months I'm having my lunch break at the mall's food court, just not to meet my HR manager at the company's canteen I do not want to see him, because four months ago he called me to ask me if I could have liked an early retirement (I'm going to retire in 2018), because yes, I would lose some money... but think of all the gas I could spare! (intelligent dude!) ...Please note that I live 2 km from my office, and I pay one salary out of three for my rent. I said no, and he couldn't force me because my Firm is not in (politically faked) difficulties, like the mother Company. To retire early, I would have had to resign from my Firm (a Company of our Corporate) only to be hired and next fired, by the mother Company. And this after 25 years of good, honest work in my office. Moreover, he tried to blackmail me by telling me that if my Firm will go into (supposed and faked, obtained with political corruption) difficulties, I would have been the first to get fired. I (gently) told him to fuck off, and subscribed to the Unions. Now you know why most probably I would never drink a beer with you. Take care, and don't forget to think about karma, before going to sleep.

P.S. And it's not " ridicules " but " ridiculous ". Hope you don't make this error, when you fire someone.

Haha, that's just silly. It's like not having a drink with a dentist because your tooth hurt during treatment at another dentist. Also, I am just a HR generalist, I collect worker information from supervisors, I put them in a report and pass it on to higher HR management. After the managers take a decision, I can either give a specific employe, a promotion, a bonus or give him his flight papers.

Silly, you say? FYI, I'd most willingly drink a beer with a lot of dentists, but I would never do that with a " kapo "... no matter if he keeps trying to convince me that he was just following orders and doing his job. Nope. No.

On the contrary in the society without morals we live in, the mentality of some company officers is not much different from that of a lager kommandant : ...workers are just tools, that are used till they're needed. Once they're not needed anymore, they get kicked in the ass, and laid off. And a CEO doesn't even need to prepare a final solution somewhat: the desperate, laid off workers that no one wants anymore, sooner or later will suicide and the problem will resolve itself.

Things are better today than 150 years ago. They had no compensation plans, welfare or pension plans, back then.

I'd bet things are now better than 150 ago. I hope we'll never see the day when our society starts regressing into the middle ages. Even if someone is actually doing their best to make it happen.
